no parades
outside it rains
on and off
and sometimes I wake in
the late September afternoon
hot and dry, hungry and
thirsty, death in my mouth
dullness in my head
and a buzz in my ears
the buzz of a lawnmower
across the street
somewhere
making someone look
all-American, a buzz
telling me to
cut my grass
cut my grazz
cut my grazzzzzzzzz
and I go into another room
in the back of the house
where I don't have to hear it
and on the radio is
some kind of music,
it sounds like
a parade,
and I remember being
asked to march in a parade
after the Gulf War
and I told him
I didn't really want to,
maybe he could get someone
who really wanted to,
which I guess he did because
I never marched in a welcome-back parade
or any parade involving anything
and I hope I don't ever have to.

Can I ask you something? Are these poems based on slices of your life? By the way, I love this one. Just the imagery and a sense of realism. I love it. Keep them coming. Great Job.

"I've had to spend the majority of my life vigilant against the thoughts and emotions of others pentrating my mind. But just this once, as the psychic dam begins to burst, I dont try to stop it... because the only emotion that comes crashing through the breakwall...
is hope.
It washes over everyone. Infectious... growing in strength...
Connecting us... uniting us... until suddenly...
strangers dont seem so strange anymore."

Yes, a lot of the poems I'm putting out now are taken from what's happened to me.
Thank you.
